Program Goals
Research Projects for Summer 2011
We have two goals: (1) to provide rising junior and senior undergraduate students (you) with an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in research related to air pollution by working with graduate students and professors at UC Davis, and (2) to give you an overview of graduate school – what it’s like, what it takes, and what you are likely to get out of it.
As an undergraduate student in APER you will be partnered with a graduate student and faculty member at UC Davis to work on a graduate-level research project. Air pollution research and education at UC Davis focus on issues such as: urban and regional smog, transportation and policy, global climate change, health and environmental effects, agricultural emissions, environmental justice, and economics.

Please review the faculty and labs on our website. On your application you will rank your top three lab choices.

Who is Eligible?
Rising junior and senior undergraduates who are currently registered at a two- or four-year college and who will not receive their Bachelor’s degree prior to May 2012. Women and members of demographic groups traditionally underrepresented in graduate school are particularly encouraged to apply. Within these guidelines, we encourage any student with an interest in air pollution to apply; typical majors include, but are not limited to, biology, toxicology, engineering, chemistry, physics, math, sociology, environmental studies and economics. (Note to UC Davis undergraduates: you may apply, but non-UCD students will get first priority.)
